[UN]FAMILIAR depicts rural and suburban Central Ontario, Canada. Occupying the space between the big city and the far Canadian North, these areas offer a connection with nature along with some urban amenities.
The tension between the borders of the human infrastructure and the surrounding natural environment along with the slow expansion of the outskirts into the natural is apparent in these non-places. As modern structures interfere with quaint places, their juxtaposition highlights the slow progess of this infrastructure with the oft un-changed comfort and familiarity of rural life.
[UN]FAMILIAR is the nature of the everyday, the splendour of the moment passed, and the striking simplicity of seeing common things in a new light.
